Southern Caramel Cake: A Classic Heirloom Recipe

- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cakes are golden brown, the centers spring back when lightly touched, and the edges pull away from the pans.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 5 minutes. Then, turn the cakes out onto wire racks to cool completely.
3. Make the Caramel Icing
- Prepare a double batch of Southern Caramel Icing (recipe linked or included below).
- Allow the icing to cool slightly until it reaches a spreadable consistency.
4. Assemble the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of caramel icing on top.
- Add the second layer and repeat. Top with the third layer and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining icing.
- Let the cake set for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
